I worked on the UX/UI design and product development of The Nudge Text's MVP mobile application. I inferred the product’s long term vision and strategy, conducted user research, restructured the subscription membership tiers, ideated and designed new features, and developed interactive prototypes. I sent my work to The Nudge Text's team and not only did I get feedback from the CEO, my work inspired new mobile app features.

Nudge Text entices a lot of users to their SMS subscription service but their mobile app fails to do the same/add to that experience, thus discouraging users from transitioning to downloading and using the app.

At the time, The Nudge Text was developing a mobile experience that seemed to expand on the existing SMS subscription service that so many users loved. As a user, it seemed like the SMS subscription had more to offer for free than the app, which defeated the purpose of building an app that would allow users to feel more connected to the Nudge community.

I started with product analysis to take a closer look at the current mobile app and compare it with the current SMS subscription service. I was able to better understand the main purpose of each experience, note down the pros and cons of both, and identify areas of improvement. My findings gave me a good starting point for what problems I should prioritize solving first.

Since the app had been live for a while, there were quite the number of reviews on the app store. Out of 1,225 apple store reviews, I only went through the 64 that gave the app a 1-3 star rating to see what users were saying about their experiences. I made sure to focus on reviews about the app specifically, not the SMS service.

This was a personal project, so I wasn't actually working with the Nudge team. The Nudge has teams of content contributors in various cities, who share events and places they themselves enjoyed because it fit their interests. Allowing them to own their content instead of grouping everyone's content together can be an opportunity for users to connect with contributors on a more personal level.

With my research findings, I rewrote the problem statement into a "how might we" statement as well as listed out the overall design focuses for these projects. These serve as a high level guide that I can come back to and reference during the design process to check whether or not my solution is answering the problem at hand.

Once the prototype was finalized, I wrote an case study on Medium walking through the design process end to end, breaking down the solution and explaining features along the way. I sent my work over to a contact I had over at The Nudge Text, stating that if my work helped with the app's future development, then I’m glad I was able to help improve a product I really enjoy using.

One of my original ideas was creating folders to organize one's saved Nudges. On October 8, 2023, the Nudge team shipped a feature called Personal Collections, allowing Nudge Plus users to create custom folders for saved Nudge plans.

A few days after I sent my work over, the app published an update with similar features like having a creator profile users can view. This was a positive sign for my product thinking/analysis skills because it showed that although I was not working directly with the team, I had a good enough sense of the business's goals and product's direction.

A few features could use improvement on the visual and UI design side. If I were to continue this project, I would test out other layouts and spacing so that these features could be more visually appealing and have improved usability. There are also areas where different colors could be used for better contrast.

I incorporated a lot of new features in this prototype, so it would be a good idea to properly validate my assumptions to ensure I was meeting users' anticipated needs as well as creating the best solution that was intuitive to use.
